Karmel Melamed

Learn about the beauty and culture of one of the world’s oldest continuous communities, the Persian Jews. Melamed will explain why they had to flee Iran in 1979, and challenges they have encountered adapting to American-Jewish life. Karmel Melamed is an award-winning internationally published journalist, activist, speaker and attorney based in Los Angeles. Born in Iran, Melamed fled after the Iranian revolution at a young age with his family to escape persecution from Iran’s newly established Islamic regime. As a journalist since 2000, he has given a new voice to the emerging and successful Iranian Jewish community living in the United States, as well as having covered issues relating to Iran and the Middle East.

Lunch is sponsored by Joan Nadler, in memory of her mother, Grace Morris.
