CBE is in need of dedicated members of the congregation to take on a leadership role on our Board of Directors.

No prior experience is required. Mentorship for all positions will be provided by former Board Members as needed.

See position descriptions below. "Open Positions" are those where the incumbent is not running for the upcoming term, and therefore where candidates are most needed, but you may submit a candidate application for any position on this page, provided you meet the requirements as shown.

Open Positions

Executive VP

Responsibilities:

  • Assume President’s duties when President is unavailable (including chairing meetings, speaking at events, etc.)

  • Oversee general maintenance of Temple facilities

  • Oversee arrangements for use of the facilities (i.e., setup/cleanup before and after events, assuring responsible use by renters, etc.)

Useful Skills:

  • Handiness/experience with maintenance/construction

  • High degree of organization

VP of Fundraising

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all fundraising activities and events; initiate fundraising campaigns and plan fundraising events

  • Serve on Communications Committee

  • Submit all funds raised with proper accounting of income and expenses

  • Prepare and provide financial reports as requested by the Board of Directors

Useful Skills:

  • Fundraising experience

  • Event planning experience

  • Marketing experience

VP of Programs

Responsibilities:

  • Initiate, plan, and chair programs for the Congregation

  • Provide financial reports to the Board of Directors upon request

  • Establish and maintain master calendar for the Congregation

  • Serve on the Communications Committee

  • Marketing experience

Other Positions

President

Requirements:

  • Must be Jewish

  • Must have been a Temple member in good standing for a minimum of two consecutive years immediately preceding the election

  • Must have served on the Board in any position in the year immediately preceding the election

Responsibilities:

  • Convene and preside over monthly Board meetings (currently taking place on Zoom), as well as meetings of the general membership, etc. as needed

  • Act as co-signatory (along with the Treasurer) on all checks issued and other approved financial agreements made, and serve as a member of the Financial Committee

  • Represent (or delegate someone to represent) the congregation and the Board at all events, both within CBE and in the wider community, helping to create a positive impression of who we are

  • Contribute a letter to each issue of the quarterly Chai-Lites newsletter, and provide other written communications to the congregation and affiliates as needed

  • Speak at events as appropriate

  • Remain on the Board as Past President for one year, to advise new President and ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities

  • Confidence in public speaking

VP of Communications

Requirements:

  • Substantial technological literacy

  • Personal access to graphic design programs (e.g., Adobe creative suite or similar)

  • Knowledge of graphic design principles and best practices

Responsibilities:

  • Chair Communications Committee

  • Update and maintain CBE website and social media pages

  • Create/coordinate CBE publications, including Chai-Lites, CBE Weekly News Email, advertising, etc.

  • Prepare annual communications budget

Useful Skills:

  • High degree of organization

VP of Membership

Responsibilities:

  • Report on status of membership as requested

  • Maintain communication with existing members, to gather feedback on potential improvements/popular features, and encourage members to bring in new potential members

  • Promote CBE in the wider community, at events and via advertising, to spread awareness about the Temple and help new people find us

  • Serve on the Financial Committee and Communications Committee

  • Oversee annual membership drive and signups (packets and online), follow up with prospective and present members during the renewal cycle and throughout the year

  • See to purchase of membership gifts

  • Prepare a budget for membership activities

Useful Skills:

  • Previous management of nonprofit membership

  • Event planning experience

  • Marketing experience

Treasurer

Responsibilities:

  • Review all financial receipts and disbursements

  • Act as co-signatory (along with the President) on all checks issued and other approved financial agreements made

  • Prepare and provide financial reports to the general membership and to local, state, and federal agencies as required

  • Serve on the Financial Committee

  • Make recommendations of financial status on delinquent membership to the Financial Committee

  • Prepare an annual Temple budget and present it to the Financial Committee for approval

VP of Social Action

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and oversee monthly Mitzvah Collection and Feed the Needy

  • Initiate, plan, and oversee additional community outreach efforts

  • Serve on the Communications Committee

Useful Skills:

  • Logistics experience

VP of Religious Education

Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for the parents and students of the Religious School

  • Serve as liaison between the Board of Directors and the Religious School

  • Monitor the instructional programs of the Religious School, in conjunction with the School Administrator and Rabbi

  • Prepare an annual budget for religious school programs, in conjunction with School Administrator

  • Establish and maintain policies and procedures of the Religious School, in conjunction with the School Administrator and Rabbi

  • Evaluate teachers’ contracts, in conjunction with the School Administrator and Rabbi

Useful Skills:

  • School administration experience

  • Education experience

Secretary

Responsibilities:

  • Record and maintain records (minutes) of all business meetings conducted by the Board of Directors and the general membership

  • Distribute said minutes no later than 7 days after the meeting

  • Notify the general membership in writing of all meetings of the general membership at least 2 weeks prior to the scheduled meeting

  • Maintain a copy of the current Bylaws and transmit all necessary reports to local, state, and federal agencies when modifications to these Bylaws are affected

Financial Secretary

Responsibilities:

  • Chair the Financial Committee

  • Maintain financial records pertaining to membership

  • Pursue collection of all billing in arrears due the Congregation

  • Advise the Board of Directors regarding members on scholarship and past-due accounts

  • Financial acumen

  • Diplomacy and tact
